MK Concrete has been awarded an ACI Excellence in Concrete Award from the MD Chapter for the State Farm Parking Lot Expansion project in Frederick, MD. This 140,000 SF project consisted of two sections of parking area adjacent to each other. As this office expanded, so did the need for additional parking. The original concrete paved parking lot, which was installed over 15 years ago, was 9" thick. Using ACI 330 as an engineering guide, the new parking lot section was reduced to 5” of unreinforced concrete. Over 2,100 CY of concrete was installed for the parking lot.
In addition, MK Concrete was presented with an Honorable Mention Award for Freightliner of Hagerstown in Hagerstown, MD. Project winners represented the best concept, originality, and applicability of concrete or depicted advancement of knowledge and practices in the field of concrete construction.
