About this Project
The Prentiss Alumni and Parent Center project consisted of the 3,170 SF renovation of the campus’ existing North Cottage and the 7,140 SF addition to the former Head of School residence to create a new, social facility for Mercersburg Academy’s alumni, parents and friends. The main floor of the Center serves as a reception area and is decorated by historic exhibits chronicling the growth and evolution of the campus over the years. Constructed in 1838, it was necessary the renovation of the North Cottage preserve the architectural integrity of the original brick structure while repurposing the interior for modern use. Designed for social events, entertainment and meetings, the renovation included multi-purpose gathering spaces and a 1,450 SF outdoor terrace with views of the Athletic Center. To meet the growing demand for additional administrative work space, the back of the house was transformed to include open work stations and enclosed offices for both the Advancement & Alumni Relations and Strategic Marketing & Communications departments. On the upper level of the North Cottage, three guest rooms provide overnight accommodations for parents of current students and for alumni who are visiting campus.
